Please identify what stamp you are referring to. Is it US? Is it a "Local" stamp versus a postage stamp? The Scott Catalog has an "L" section for "Locals" but catalog listings do not start with "L" but "1L", so we'll need a little more information to help you.

Scott Specialized 2011 has it at $7,500 used and $6,500 mint.
Love to see a picture, if you've got!

Note, there are 1875 reprints - imperf unused at $50 and perf 12 unused at $16,000. No prices for used.
There's a long description of the reprints in the listing, which I can't get into now.

"The first reprinting of the Franklin stamp was on the rose paper of the original, obtained from Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. Two batches of ink were used, both darker than the original. The second reprinting was on rose paper using ink that fluoresces green. The third reprinting was on much thicker, paler paper in an indigo colour. All of these differ under ultraviolet light. The design of the reprints is not as distinct as the original design and may appear a bit 'muddy' in the lathework above the vignette."
- Scotts

It would probably help if you had an image of the original issue to compare, but the only one I could find online (in a quick search) is at the Smithsonian's Arago site.

You can zoom into the image of the stamp. See if that helps for comparison.

Oh my .. I'm in love with it. Reprint or not I am going to have buy one. This one looks like a 10 and a 9 combined into one stamp.

The Scott catalog also makes note that counterfeits exist on many of the Carriers' Stamps. So if you think you have the valuable variety (i.e. original 1851 printing) it probably needs to be evaluated by an expert to maximize its sales potential on the secondary market.

If it is of any help, these stamps were certified by the Philatelic Foundation. The left-hand stamp is L01 and the right is L03 (it had been submitted as L01). The certificate numbers are 462429 and 484760, respectively.

Gladiators001,

I wish I could tell you that those two stamps I displayed were mine; unfortunately, I had to "borrow" them from the PF database in order to provide examples of the two.

I wish you luck getting yours certified and look forward to learning the outcome.

Steve

It sounds like the Scott values haven't changed much over the past couple of years on this item. Scott L01 was listed at $6500 mint and $7500 used in the 2011 catalog and it seems the earlier post by Joe Stamps suggests 2013 catalog has them listed with the same values.

Just for comparison, I have an old 2002 Scott Catalog that lists the L01 at $5000 (same value both mint and used) so the values have gone up gradually over time, just no recent price fluctuations.
