Hello everyone, I am still fairly new to collecting, so I still have a lot of questions about the basics. One that has really been bugging me is how should I store my covers? Right now, they are just kind of laying around because I don't know what to do with them. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Have you thought about the S2 Vario stock pages? That's what I use for my covers. It;s a 2 way divided page with an upper pocket and lower pocket on both sides to put cover in. They come in either a black background and clear. I think they work great and look even better.

I too use the Vario pockets...but as they hold covers with a maximum width of 195mm (seven and five eighths inches) and I have lots of odd sized covers I also use the GRANDE ones as they hold covers 216mm width (just over 8 inches). For folders such as the Space Flown STS-8 cover I have used the Grande single pocket 306 x 216mm (12" x 8 and 5 eighths inches) ... but I had to look hard and long for those.

I go a different route. I like to research the subjects of the cover and create pages including any info I can find about them. Of course I also have info about the stamps, cancels etc.
The simpler covers are usually mounted two a page but more in depth pages will include the information found and any other pertinent images, either scans of the back of the cover, contents or pictures of the subject, if I can find them.
I print them on acid free cover stock and mount with clear acid free photo mounts.
Here's an example of an 1855 stampless cover. The recipient was an inn owner just east of Toronto. His inn is now a museum.

As I've said many times, Google is one of my favourite stamp collecting tools.

If I'm not mistaken, there are cover-sized mounts available. I've got some of my more valuable and older items in those archival holders but I've also been using some Lighthouse corner mounts and blank pages.

For Australian stamp collectors,
you may wish to investigate BUNZL
http://www.bunzl.com.au/

I buy 2000 polypropelene envelopes for $4.95
I use them for everything, plop scanned stamps on my desk into them
covers, anything, stops dust and finger marks, no matter how clean
you think your hands are.
