This is what I believe is a wounded US Scott 454, perf 10 Vertically, type II. However, I am more interested in the 1915 appearing out of place in the cancellation. Is this just part of a standard machine cancellation, or something else?

Very common duplex cancel from that period. Here's what the entire postmark would have looked like:



During much of the same period, there were also versions of the postmark, where the year was contained within the CDS, as in this example:



Many were still being used through the 1940s (and even a few into the early 1950s).
