While watching The Men Who Made America series on the History Channel, I happened to notice that letters delivered to the two actors portraying J. P. Morgan and George Westinghouse circa 1895 had red two-cent A139 design stamps on them. Couldn't see them well enough to tell if they were coils, imperfs, or what, but they certainly had Washington's head in profile on them. Looks like they were trying to get a classic stamp on the envelope, but missed by around thirteen years. I don't usually watch for such stuff, but this was pretty obvious. My wife just commented sarcastically "Who would know, or care, but a stamp collector!"

Keen observation! My wife says the same thing when I point out that a movie set in 1965 has a 67 Chevy parked on the street.

I wanted to watch that program myself, but was tied up with other things last night. Hopefully it was otherwise enjoyable.

I actually seen that and was going to comment on here as well but thought everyone would think I was nutz! lol Guess I'm not the only one! I actually paused on it (direct TV) and rewound it about 30 times trying to figure out which one it was but looks like a #26 but the profile is all wrong and it looked too wide and almost pinkish didn't it? Maybe it was supposed to be a #65 or a 248 or maybe a 256 is my best guess anyhow! Great show too! I love it!!
