In the course of conversation when people find that I am a stamp collector..many feel obligated to ask "whats your collection worth?" I could think of many replies...like, whats your wife worth ? Its my personal possession....i do not have a $$ value on it...i have no interest in selling it to put Grandchildren through business school like my barber with his coin collection..haaaaa, now if feel better !

Well, I don't shy away from quoting 4-5 digit imaginary numbers although I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to believe me after going through my collection. But I do like Philb's thought of replying 'Whats your wife worth?'. From now on I'll be telling this line. |

Quote: whats your wife worth ? Are you suggesting you're open to swap your stamps for the wife? |

You can't stop people from asking while it may get under the skin there is not much you can do about it. When people ask me something like this I simple say, " Not much, it won't even fill up the gas tank."
It is just like the people who tell me that my camera takes great photographs. I just tell them, "Yeah, maybe you should buy a better one too."
Don't sweet the little things. |

Phil:
I always answer that question by saying: "It's worth more to me than any monetary value it holds".

The problem with affixing a value, or even insinuating a value is that it WILL get around. Then you are a prime target for burglary, invasion, scams, and even unscrupulous family thinking they can beg, borrow, or steal from you because you "have money".
Best to stay away from that. It's no value, low value, or nunya... |
