Scott1343, Welcome to SCF. Was this from an existing photograph or was this a staged photo by the designer of the stamp? I would be interested in any details of the process.

Thanks for posting, its nice to hear the personal side of the stamps.

I used to collect. My father still has a collection. I, of course have a number of my stamps. Some framed signed by the artist, my father and myself.

Yes, that was my 15 minutes of fame.

This was staged by the artist, Warc Brackett. I remember that he did not like the lighting in his studio so we climbed out the window and are actually standing on a roof.

Mr. Brackett had been commissioned by the USPS to design a number of stamps. When he came up with the idea for a Law and Order stamp he decided on this design. He knew my father was a local policeman who had done some modeling with 2 sons. Here is a little article from the local paper.

When I was growing up my father used to bring me blocks to sign. They were sent to him by collectors from all over. BTW, my father is still alive but Mr. Brackett passed away in 2006.

Are you familiar with this exhibit at the Westport Historical Society, featuring artists including Ward Brackett?

No, I was not. When I was growing up the Post Office had a display of all the stamps designed by Wesport artists. I went in one day as a young man and the display was no longer there. Someone had broken into the cabinet at night and stole all the stamps.
