What do you think of this new stamp coming out in 2013?

Quote:
I believe it will replace the denominated Weathervane Stamps. In that they are only available right now in 3000 and 10,000 coils, most collectors won't bother with them until the USPS Store comes out with an order number for a smaller quantity (typically strips of 25 are eventually offered to collectors).

The set of four stamps depict the same contemporary flower drawing, with each stamp featuring one of four different color combinations: red and blue, green and purple, orange and violet, or pink and green. Some of the color combinations create the illusion that patterns recede or come forward, giving the stamps a dramatic visual appeal. The lines and curves of the drawing are reminiscent of a kaleidoscope flower—familiar, yet at the same time utterly distinctive.

Designed by art director Antonio Alcalá, Kaleidoscope Flowers features the work of graphic artists Petra and Nicole Kapitza.

These stamps will be issued at a First-Class Mail denomination in self-adhesive coils of 3,000 and 10,000.

To answer the question, I don't know what to think!
It is a cute little stamp, but ridiculous that it is only available in rolls of 3 or 10.000!
I am glad I quit collecting mint US; it will cost almost 25 dollars just to get these four stamps
for a collection!

Underwhelming immediately comes to mind. Is this the best that USPS and the advisory committee can come up with? These are even worse than the high-value "wave" stamps.

Keep in mind these are denominated stamps and are to scheduled to replace the Weathervane Stamps from last year. In that they are only available in 3K and 10K coils the USPS is not intending to gear sales toward the likes of the general population (other than stamp collectors), rather they are interested in having the designs please the business community who still think that the general public is more apt to open their "junk mail" if a colorful stamp is applied.

Peter: A strip of 25 will cost 11.50, not "nearly $25"

Technically, philatelic purchases would cost around $25. The strips of 25 will be available in both 3K and 10K coil varieties ... so that's $11.50 x two varieties = $23.00, plus $1.25 in handling fees from SFS to order them, so the inclusive price would be $24.25. Of course, you can take out of those strips of 25 just the collectible strips or plate numbers, etc., and use the balance for postage, which would somewhat reduce your overall investment (assuming you still have need to use postage stamps on a regular basis).

But the 3k and 10k coil stamps are identical. There may be a difference in the back numbers, but most collectors don't care about that.

The USPS Store is now offering the ability to purchase a strip of 25 of these 46-cent Kaleidoscope Stamps on their website at a cost of $11.50:

The Scott color refers to the color of the large outer leaves.

SDTOM:

Did you mean what color refers to what Scott Number? If so, I think the information you're looking for is as follows:

4722 46c Kaleidoscope Flowers Coil with yellow orange outer leaves
4723 46c Kaleidoscope Flowers Coil with yellow green outer leaves
4724 46c Kaleidoscope Flowers Coil with red violet outer leaves
4725 46c Kaleidoscope Flowers Coil with red outer leaves
