Just got these in and was having troubles scanning them with my nice scanner so I tried scanning them with my cheap all in one scanner and thought they came out pretty good. Funny that on every ebay auction I looked at, I could barely see the actual stamp, if at all.

If memory serves, I believe there's a U.S. postal stationery that is also a hologram. |

Yup, there is. Here's an advertising sample I have of it. Shame it got stained at some point before I acquired it. Maybe I should soak it and see what happens. There's also an Express Mail round stamp from the same series as above but I don't have that one yet |

I just threw one of those away actually! It was all creased and no good. Neat space stamps though! |

In order to obtain a faithful holographic image, correct use of the appropriate light source for the illumination of the hologram is of critical importance. For viewing of a hologram stamp it is important that it be illuminated by a spotlight (SCANNERS CANNOT therefore reproduce holographic images). The spotlight must be placed at a certain angle and distance in relation to the holographic stamp, since the quality and color of the image visible in the hologram will depend on how the hologram stamp is illuminated and viewed. To view a holographic stamp, a spotlight should be placed somewhere above the stamp, illuminating it at a 45 degree angle.
Up until 2014 holographic stamps have been issued in approximately 80 countries, and the total number of different postal items containing holograms is estimated at 450 pieces. A new book on Hologram on Postage Stamps between 1988 and 2013 will be published early 2014 (Xlibris, ISBN: 978-1493-13049-8). This book presents a chronological review of worldwide issues of postage stamps and souvenir sheets containing holograms. Each stamp is described and accompanied with a color photograph of the stamp. This also applies to miniature and souvenir sheets. In no other philatelic or holographic publication will the reader find such extensive information on hologram stamps, accompanied by an abundance of high-quality color illustrations throughout the book.

There are several US postal stationery envelope holograms including one for American football and two for space. |
