I recently bought some old US album pages to build my US used collection. I was excited to find a few old stamps, including this stamp which I believe to be #114. I am wondering if anyone can let me know more about this stamp - particularly about the pre-printing paper fold? Thanks for your help!

A large prominent fold like this will bring an excellent price on ebay; not one in a hundred is this desirable. |

Welcome Jimmy and congrats on such a nice find. You won't find vintage error stamps like that very often. Your Scott # is correct. |

Thanks for your feedback! Don't think I'll be selling this anytime soon - Just excited to have found something special in a big pile of used stamps. I'm just starting my US collection, so this has got me hooked! |

Your's is the first pre-print fold stamp I have seen that was unfolded prior to applying to the cover and to being canceled. I wonder if that adds any additional value? Even if it does not it is a very nice collectable stamp and definitely a keeper. |

Interesting... I hadn't thought about the fact that it was unfolded prior to being canceled. Thanks for your post |

Stamps with Pre-print paper folds are quite popular and often sell at double cat value (or more). |

They look like pre-printing paper folds to me. A close examination to see if there es a break in the design would tell. Pulling the paper apart at the folds would help, but you'd probably damage the stamp.
It's safe to put the stamp in water, but pulling it apart while wet could easily tear it. |

YES WOW! I am glad to have brought this old post back to life to see all of these great stamps. I did soak mine and some of the crease came out. I did notice that the locomotive smoke stack seems to be doubled and the ribbon lines seem to be odd. What do you think? |
