What do the initials BSP stand for on a dated precancel type 263 Galesburg, Michigan? (BSP 10-1946); The stamp is a 7 cent Andrew Jackson presidential series. Thank you very much. Pete

Burgess Seed & Plant - they used millions of distinctive precancels on many denominations.

Thank you very much. Searched quite a bit and couldn't find the answer. Recently started sorting thru precancels I've had around to determine types, etc. Much appreciated! Pete

Just some ancillary information about Burgess Seed and Plant Company. Here's an image of their catalog from the year in question (1946). As it claimed to be their 33rd year in business, the company must have been started in 1913:

I wouldn't be surprised if their "BSP" precanceled stamps were actually used in the mailing distribution of the catalog shown.

Can't ask for any better documentation about the meaning of BSP than a magazine with the company name, 1946 and Galesburg, Michigan on it. Thank you.
