I am very new to the world of pre-cancels ... while sorting through a pound of US kiloware over the weekend I came across a few what I would call interesting pre-cancels. Not knowing much about them, I did a little research and now know that the most commonly seen are the Bureau pre-cancels. I got a little fuzzy (I admit it .. my eyes starting glazing over) with the whole handstamp and different types .. anyhow this example struck me as unique in the stmaps I was handling ...

what can you tell me about it and is it at all interesting?

Sure they're quite interesting, however, I don't think you'll find your examples particularly valuable. There were seven DIFFERENT precancels used at Two Rivers, Wisconsin, yours being a Type 713.

By the way, Two Rivers, Wisconsin's "claim to fame" is that they claim to have invented the first ice cream sundae there!

thanks wt1 ... wasn't really looking for or expecting anything too valuable. I have two of the seven different pre-cancel types then? Since the one on the 10˘ is two bars with the city name inside and the one on the 6˘ is two bars with the city name outside? Or are they variations of the same type, Type 713? Where would one find information on these? Thanks so much!

They are the same type. In the example on the left the precancels have been applied off centre so the top line of this stamp has been lost to the stamp above, and in return it has received at the bottom the top line from the stamp below.

I am not an expert on US stamps but have to ask this: Are the red bars on the selvedge of the 10 cents stamp called "Electronic Eye" as opposed to 'guidelines'??

I have seen those on definitives and other stamps as well but not after the 60s if I am not mistaken????

Go to the website of the Precancel Stamp Society (the US one not the British.)

On their homepage click Styles and Devices. Then Click Here For The PSS Style Sheet. Download this. It contains illustrations and descriptions of each type.

Next return to the homepage. This time click Free Precancel Albums For Download. Then Free Precancel Albums. Then choose a format (it doesn't much matter which). Then choose the State you are looking for. Then go through the alphabetical pages until you find the town you need. There will be spaces for each known type for that town with a number underneath. Make a note of these numbers. Then look these numbers up in the style sheet and see which one matches your stamp.
