In the first envelope there is a difference in the color of the stamps, and the second envelope ripped and been used!

What's the postmark on the first one? Where in Illinois?

If it has a Deseret receiving mark on the back, you have a treasure! You do know who Brigham Young was, don't you? If not, take a quick read in Wikipedia.

I was sorta shocked when I read the name . Considering he died in Salt lake City in 1877 that is a super cover. Desert postmark would be icing.

Those are very nice, and of course the Brigham Young cover is amazing. A real piece of history.
As to your question about the stamps, the two on the Brigham Young cover have oxidized and so the colour has turned brownish. Appearantly that can be remedied, but considering the historical value of the cover, I'd hesitate to tamper with it.

Anyone catch that Deserett address? That was an actual name for an area out west I believe that was absorbed into either Texas or Arizona when we acquired it from the French. That could add value.
(There were many different spellings I have seen on covers)

EDIT: info added.

The stamps are discolored from oxidation.
