The latest USPS "stamp" announcement is for the upcoming Deer Stamped Card:

Quote:
The silhouette of a deer now prances across Deer Stamped Card. A fanciful graphic of a golden deer, surrounded by gold and green cattails and grasses, captures the graceful look of an animal that is found in many countries around the world. The white-tailed deer is the most common species of deer in the United States.

Excellent runners and swimmers, whitetails can exceed speeds of 30 miles per hour when fleeing a predator. In the 1800s, people on the frontier fashioned deerskins into jackets, clothing, and moccasins, and even traded the skins, known as buckskins, as a form of currency. As a result, a dollar bill is known as a "buck" to this day.

Art director Ethel Kessler designed the envelope, using an illustration created by artist Cathie Bleck.

The Deer Stamped Card is being issued as a Forever® stamped card. Its postage will always be equal to the value of the First-Class Mail postcard rate in effect at the time of use, even if the rate increases after purchase.

By the way, does anyone know why the USPS offers these Stamped Cards with the designation "Forever" when they don't offer postcard rate stamps with the "Forever" designation?

I don't know for sure, but I have a feeling that a postcard forever stamp would be confusing?
Anyway, the design above looks like another winner!

Post Offices should typically stock them (on or after the issue date). If they don't you can always order them directly from the USPS Store's website. However, they are not yet listed for pre-order because they aren't scheduled to be issued until March 8, 2013.

I've found them (in recycling bins) with messages announcing the next board meeting, a sale on office type things, etc.

They can also be useful for philatelic postmarks, pictorial cancels, etc., since they cost less than a first class stamp.

I get a lot of these announcing stamp shows, from all over the country. Sometimes they show my APS number on the address!
