I believe these to be a Scott 488. Am I correct.

High resolution scans are needed to tell. Since you think it is a 488 it must be unwatermarked. That would mean either Type II (Scott 487) or Tyie III (Scott 488). Below is a high resolution scan of the ribbons on the two types. The Type III has an additional line in the 2 areas shown.

Russ I can scan up to 1200 dpi , but when I try to upload the image at the rate I get an error. I am using Picasa 3. Is there another program out there that would produce betetr results?

Looks like a T3 to me.
That would apparently make it a 488.
