I just bought this pitiful looking fellow but for around 20.00 $35.00 shipped I just couldn't leave it. Here, for now, is the sellers crappy image.

This poor lookin' raggedy little fellow will hold a place of honor in my little collection.

Blown up image-

Thank you for the nice comments!

Question: Can anyone tell me what the two letters at the bottom of the CDS are? Probably the state but which one? Looks like a "C" and a possible "I" or "L" and another letter that I just cant seem make out from this blurry image? any guesses?

Nice stamp Jeff, despite its 'faults'.
I assumed the initials in the cancel were CA, but I don't know if that abbreviation for California were used back then.

@ James- Thank you. That's what I originally thought too but didn't think it looked quite right. Also seems to be a ghost of a letter off to the left of those two also? For the price I wasn't going to pass it over-would you?

@ Sinclair2010- That seems to make good sense. Thank you very much.

Is the cancel dated Aug 10 1861? That's after this set was demonitized and replaced with the 1861 set, right?

Matt

That's what it appears to be Matt. I'll know better once it rears it's ugly head in my mailbox! I'll scan it up proper.
