Dear All,

I started my stamp collecting at the age of six when I moved from Osaka, Japan to Hamburg, West Germany (that was in 1968 or 69). It was indeed my greatest hobby during my stay @ Hamburg for about 4 + 1/2 years, collecting (or more precisely, accumulating) german stamps as well as general worldwide stamps. The interest almost faded away since then, and I just started again quite recently, about three years ago.

Although my current interest is 19th century Japanese stationery, I still am sticking to Germany stamps, especially the German Reich definitives and infla stamps.

Apart from above, I am focusing on Japanese hand-etched (engraved) revenues from 19th century (Meiji Era), which really is a challenge due to its vast variety.

I hope I can help someone getting into trouble identifying Japanese or Japan-related items.

Thanks everyone, and looking forward to interacting with many of you.

Welcome!

It's great to see someone from Japan on here! I've been collecting Japanese stamps for about 25 years, perhaps at an intermediate level. I use the JSCA (Nissen) and Shimomura as a reference, but still have some questions for someone who knows the language and also collects. I was in Tokyo for PhilaNippon 2001, but couldn't get there for 2011.

Although I don't collect Germany, I know there are others here who share your interest and perhaps can answer questions of yours as well.

Again, welcome! I'm looking forward to staying in touch!

-- Dave

Dear all, thanks for your warm welcome.

Dave ... I must admit I am a sort of a beginner, but I would be happy if I can help you "reading" the covers and cancellations if you have any problem !

Russ ... I am really looking forward to communicate with friends all around the world. Sharing the knowledge and tidbits is always exciting and fun !

Happy collecting

Welcome to S.C.F. Hironobu! Can/do you read or speak Japanese and/or German? The reason I ask is that there are often times that a member will receive a "foreign" {non-USA/English} that we refer to as World Wide material to be politically correct and that skill could be a great attribute besides the fact that you collect stamps! So it's a WIN-WIN type situation! OK I'll stop rambling on now and one more time to S.C.F. ! -Jeff
