Hi Guys, I bought a pile of stuff from a dealer, and two old pages of flawed stamps were included. The original collector typed on the 1st page: Flaws on Stamps Such as broken hats, caps on twos, etc. I was able to discern the broken hats, and the dots on the outside of the outer frame lines on the bottom two Washington stamps, but I'm stumped on the caps on the twos. Where are they? What are they? Thanks

zipper- if that is cap on right 2 only it may be a super bonus but for dealer to let it slip may be for a reason. As mentioned by Russ in the above mentioned post only a couple have been certified. That is one thing I always look for is caps but no such luck here either. |

Thank you, New12. I can see something on the 2 that's on my right. I'll have to figure out how to enlarge the scan.
Mike33, which stamps were you looking for?
I think it's odd that the original collector had 5 broken hats... He or she must have collected them on purpose.
What's the big deal about the dot on the outside of the 2 bottom Washington's? |

Hi Nitro, I can't see well enough to see the left 2 clearly. It looks as if it might have a cap; that's why I have to figure out how to blow it up. It's probably there. There's an empty hinge where there was once a stamp to the left of this one. If was probably a rare one. |

I've been looking for caps over 2s stamps for a while now - without actually breaking down and buying them. I'd rather find them in a lot or album purchase |

Here are Mine (caps on 2's) (I think! - I am not an expert) - These are my 220, 220a, and 220c (normal, cap on left, and cap on both). Weird perf on the left side of the 220c huh? - Wonder what that is about? Closeups |

Wow! I can definitely see yours! Mine has a cancel by the left 2, so it's tough to see. How did you do your closeups, Eric? |

I use the "preview" feature of my scanner at 1200DPI - then it allows me to select the area to "scan" - and I highlighted the 3 stamps.
Then - the closeups I did with PAINT.NET (it's free - A pain in the butt to download, but once you get it, it is really a great tool)
In PAINT.NET - I just selected the area and cropped. Since the original image was at 1200DPI - The closeups look pretty decent

No cap on left - show same type scan of the right. Since the cap on right only is apparently an inking issue rather than plate issue yours still has small hopes. If left is over inked maybe right is under. |

Then the guy who listed this as caps must have been mistaken, because the right two doesn't look like Eric's. |

I'm still trying to figure out how to use all the graphic applications. This seems to be my best attempt. |

I think those 2's don't look capped...
The cap is a pretty noticeable "splotch"
I have tons and tons of these 2 cent washingtons - And those ones are the only ones I have with the caps
