Perfin # R-77 = (RI) Sq, Athens, PA.
The Perfin Catalog does not provide a company name other than "(RI) Sq" with the location of Athens, PA.

Sorry I do not have an image, but, can anyone tell me who used the US perfin inscribed RJR with a 'dot' perfin at the middle of the back of the "J" and joining the back of the "R"?? I am guessing that it is a railway company??
Thanks a lot

I always thought this was an Ingersoll-Rand Co. perfin: Is it just a different variety and/or location for that firm or have I identified the IR/Co perfin incorrectly? |

PoStat4evR Thanks for the update.
That makes a lot more sense than "(RI) Sq" shown in the PERFIN CATALOG. |

Is this the catalog to which you was referring? http://www.perfins.org/publications-for-sale/ Quote: The Perfins Club Catalog Sales Department David Lightle – Proprietor 10616 Cielo Vista Del Norte NW Corrales, NM 87048 Perfinpaul@msn.com
Title-World Perfin Catalogue – America's Schwerdt, Robert. 1992. The World Perfins Catalog. American Section. Poughkeepsie, NY: The Perfins Club. [91 p.]

wt-1; Your pattern is also a Ingersoll Rand perfin. There are 3 varieties in the "I" section, the I77.5 (Square ([IR]), I78 IR/CO and I79, I-R/Co. towns are Athens, PA; Newark, NJ; Easton, PA respectively.
I-Love_Stamps; No. the catalog you mention is just a older much, much shortened WW catalog, that was issued many years ago, and the "Americans section" covers NA, SA, and CA countries. The catalog I mention is the "big" Catalog of United States Perfins, by John Randall, issued 1998. I don't know what the non member price is, but likely close to $100 (I think it is $70 to members). Contact John and ask him.
Hal; The older (first version) of the perfins catalog had it listed as R-whatever, as that is what the oroginal editor deemed it to be. Many tons of water have gone under the bridge since the first catalog was issued. The corrections and additions (4 set) pages are about one inch thick updating the 1998 version of the printing. If you plan on getting the catalog, get the A&D pages as well.

Here's another reference to an RJR perfin being attributed to the Roberts, Johnson and Rand Shoe Co., St. Louis, MO (EKU 1908): http://www.angelfire.com/pr/perfins...cts/3798.pdfHowever, that is not to say there could have been more than one type of "RJR" perfin (just like the Ingersoll Rand perfins noted earlier in this thread). A picture or scan will help identify it more accurately than any written description can. |

wt1: Yes there is another RJR pattern (R96), listed as you say. However the pattern noted earlier was R J (dot) R, which is RJ Reynolds. The only way to get all the info is with the aforementioned Perfins Club catalog.

Thanks. Just goes to prove that a picture or scan is worth so much more as an identifier than just a narrative description. |
