Here's a nice item that arrived in my mailbox today !

Schermack Control Perf, pattern 6-8-9, from the Hill Publishing Co. of New York.

Not only was it a paste up single, but it had a hidden plt# as well.

Normally I'll remove the paste up strip and re-attach to show the plt # .

Very Happy to get it.

Now I'm just asking because I never dealt with these but is it ok to take those apart and re-attach? Wouldn't that destroy it's integrity as an original piece?

I am assuming that either the plate number was already showing or you had removed and reattached the paste up strip.

I too wonder with ILS if removing the strip and reattaching changes the nature of the item into something that it was not originally.

Interesting question ?

I bought a collection of these at one time and that is how they were done. I just continued. Obviously it's not something you should do if the item is mint. But, in my opinion, it makes a much better presentation on a used item to have the plate # visable.

That's the beauty of Stamp Collecting. There are so many ways to do it. Whatever makes you happy is the best way !

You might want to check and see if that plate # is recorded in the Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog as used on a Schermack III private perf. issue, if it isn't you could report it.

LONEDAN I love stamps which have more than one thing going on. I have a 2 cent Scott 425(I think, it is in that series, the perf 10 single line watermarks) which is 1. a beautiful shade 2. has New York dated foreign male cancellation,, 3. is a perfin and 4. to top it off is a pink back.
