And Boom goes the Stamp budget. It seems as if the last couple of months at the on-line auctions have been lacking items of my collecting wants and needs so there have been very few additions to the collection. For some reason a couple of weeks ago things started getting better.

It's either that or I was getting the urge to add to the collection so I started plugging in snipes and some nice additions have been put in their waiting spaces.

I got this cover from a dealer in Belgium. I want all 3 of the Jenny's on cover but they must be commercial and not Philatelic. This is a nice commercial single useage.

A lovely 214

Something you don't see every day (or at least I don't) and something missing in my collection, an attached pair with Grills. A pair of 136's.

I upgraded my Scott 72, Hudson Fulton celebration and decided that with all my US Commemorative series I was going in a different direction. I'd like to get 1 Cover, 1 official Postcard, 1 of each Stamp, and 1 plate block. I'm waiting for the Postcard, will find the cover in my cover box eventually and these.

I can't resist Black Jacks with face free cancels and under $10

One of my missing Official Department of State proofs

I'll post the others up after I get them scanned. Boom goes this month's stamp budget.

There's always something to research when it comes to covers. Take your first scan of the 16-cent airmail stamp on a cover from Lang & Co. Wholesale Grocers of Portland, Oregon.

Perhaps you never knew this about the firm (see fifth paragraph at link below):

Quote:
The house was built for Max Lang and his wife; it was given to them as a 50th wedding anniversary present by their five sons. Max and his brother Isador owned Lang and Co., a wholesale grocer on Front Street. That company became the largest wholesale grocery house on the Pacific Coast by 1926.

There is something odd about that 16c Jenny on cover. Maybe it's just my monitor or the scan or something. The wavy lines in the cancel don't seem to line up between the stamp and the cover, especially the top ones. Or maybe it's just late and I'm tired. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen things that weren't there this late at night.

Interesting background, thanks WT1.

I think it's the way my scanner sees blended colors or something with backgrounds. It's a good scanner and does a great job for the most part but lacks when trying to show deeper Blue colors and perhaps colors like the cover has. The C2 Jenny looks kosher to me, here is a zoom.

It looks as if the stamp might have fallen off or been removed from the cover and was then replaced without having properly aligned the stamp to the cancel. Essentially, it looks as if the top line of the killer on the cover is aligned with the 2nd line of the killer on the stamp. In this retroreveal-processed image, you can see what appears to be the bottom line of the killer on the cover's blue bar.
