I was hunting for the elusive #316 or the #318, I was getting dizzy over the amount of cards I went through, these were the most interesting I could find. |

Joe, the 2nd stamp is a stronger impression than most WF stamps and with the rose color and heavy toga rope and button I'm fairly positive that you've found a Type Ia, #500, a very nice find. It's also off center which is norm for this stamp.
Color gives this away. There are strong impression Type I's but they are carmine, not deep rose.
Congratulations- I can't be 100% sure from a computer image but it doesn't look like carmine, its a strong impression and strengthened toga rope and button.
Any other opinions here? All EGator? Russ?

Joe, Ray, Ya-the second one could be a #500. The toga rope and button aren't as strong an impression as more noticeable #500s but its worth sending to Weiss for an opinion. I've some #499 with a toga rope and button with a strong impression, but the color is key. The color does look good for a #500 vs. #499. Good luck! will be a GREAT find on cover! I never pass up looking at post cards in flea markets, antique shops etc. I've found some nice ones over time. |

Have to look at it carefully The Scott Cat says earliest known use is Dec 1919 this cover is dated April 1919, I might send this one in to get it certified. |

Joe, I don't believe its known exactly when #500 was first placed on sale, only that it was in 1919. Normally new EDUs don't move the date back that far, but it could happen. I have a #374 on post card that I showed to Randy Shoemaker of PSAG at the show in Louisville. The watermark is hard to see, but he believes its there. I'll be sending it to him this week. IF he certs it, and I believe he will, it will move the EDU on the #374 from 2/07/1911 to 12/31/1910. The issue date is stated as 11/23/1910, so there is still room to find an even earlier EDU. Can't hurt to send it to Weiss to see what he thinks. |

Here is the possible #500 stamp with the dated cancellation The Scott Catalogue says earliest use date is December 1919 but as you can see this is dated April 2, 1919. This would be a great find if it holds true. I am sending it to Bill this week. Keeping my fingers crossed. |
