i have been searching and found this stamp. it does not have a list as a part perf. i know that they could cut the stamp down but the margins seem too wide.
It looks like a convincing part-perf single to me. However I believe the policy is that a pair (imperf between) has to be documented in order for the part-perf variety be listed in Scott. There are several examples of first issue revenue stamps (like this one) where fairly convincing part-perf singles are known but no pairs have been documented to exist, and so they are not listed.
So unless there is two attached making a pair they will not be list? I went through mine the other day while I have no pairs I do have a lot that I would call coil. Do you think there were some sheets that they just didn't perf in both directions?
Yes, these stamps were needed in haste to raise taxes for the Union troops in the Civil War. Some sheets were released imperforate and part perforate to get them out as soon as possible.
I know this is an old post, but if I may add my 2cents. As a revenue collector of over 40 years. Their are several part perf and imperf stamps that are not listed by Scott. These are well known to most very serious Revenue collectors. Even though no pairs or other multiples are known. The problem with these is that the standard measurement of 2mm+ on opposite sides doesn't apply due to the large margins on some of these. Any with 3.5-4mm opposite margins are most likely legitimate.
