Need To Draw The Old Pre Cancel Gurus Out !

i could use some help on this one...went through the alphabetic towns of Alabam and cold not find anything close to the name on the stamp !

Dollin doesn't ring any bells but this is not my area by a long shot. Also if I may add to your question- does anyone have that list of rarer high value precancels . I know its on scf somewhere but can't find it. I have a few that also don't ring any bells and figure that check list is a good start for possible rarity issues.

Bolling, AL (Type 717, only type known for that town).

For the record, a Type 717 is known as Bold 2.5mm block capital letters with 2.5mm spacing between town and state names.

These are the precancels that are listed as -AA- rarity, only one known.
Other precancels from these towns might be common - you have to match the town and TYPE.

That's quite a list. What is an L-7? I'm guessing the number after the town is a Scott number?

Not Scott# - I suspect the majority of the super-scarce ones are on SC632 or SC705.
The number is the precancel type as organized in the PSS town and type catalog.
The L-types were locally produced, all the numeric type devices were supplied to the towns via the POD from WashDC. 400 500 and 600 series were rubber, 700 series metal.
The list I posted here was [easily] created from the PSS T&T program [highly recommended].

Wow, our little town Red Hook, New York made the list with a Scott #632!

The Houston L-7 M [for mimeograph printing] was found on the 10 cent parcel post - lets turn up a second one!

Google could not help me..but when I look in"The Precancel Stamp Society's town and type catalog of the United States and Territories"..There she is !!

I have a bunch of Houston precancels. I'll have to dig through them again.

There's no longer a post office there, so I understand. According to Jim Forte's Postal History website, the post office closed circa 1980.

This is the Red Hook NY PSS-632. When the latest edition of the precancel catalog came out, only one was known - on a 1 cent bicentennial. I found this second example:

Thanks, its nice to see my town represented..interesting to wonder who used the precancel..there was a chocolate factory before my time thats now a minimall..i wonder how much mailing they could have done ?
