Thumbing through a pile of covers this morning I came across this FDC which I figured is worth a buck to someone. So off the ebay to see what they're selling for :)

First one I see, $125.00 and it's the only result ! Not only is it scarce, it's expensive !

So next let's click the "Sold" category to see what prices any have actually received and again, only one to be found...it garnished 1 bid for $3.79, just what I thought, reality.

I think that this was when Patton told the Philippines he would come back to liberate them and around the same time Pearl Harbor was invaded by the Japanese. He did eventually go back but only because President Eisenhower didn't care much for him and sent him there to get him out of the way (probably so he wouldn't go round slapping and insulting the wounded in the infirmary)

Interesting I see the name Knapp by the cachet...there was a woman in our neighboring town Rhinebeck by that name that used to do handpainted cachets..she was a little before my time but her covers bring good money as opposed to most first day covers !!

ILS -- I think you'll find that was MACARTHER not Patton. You're confusing your movie generals.

Here's your homework...

According to the Mellone catalog, hand-painted Knapp FDCs of 1941-1945 can fetch 300x-400x premium.

In those 2 links, neither cover appears to be hand-painted, but rather printed. In addition, Lang's cover is not an FDC; perhaps the addressee is someone special(?).

Let's get the timeline straight here:
1941 - Japanese attack Pearl Harbor
1942 - MacArthur sneaks out of the Phillipines
1943 - a beautiful baby boy is born in eastern Washington state
1944 - MacArthur returns to the Phillipines
2013 - stallzer starts this thread

regards, yakboomer

lorddenning, I'm glad you are continuing here on SCF.

I have really enjoyed reading your Postal History Corner http://postalhistorycorner.blogspot.ca/
and have learned a lot from it and from your posts here.
Your site is a true labour of love and I really admire that.

Don't bother about some know nothing who is only on these forums
to stir things up but contributes absolutely nothing.
Just ignore them.

lorddenning, very interesting links, thanks! My late father-in-law was a sailor on the USS Iowa during the Battle of Leyte gulf.

Also, Eisenhower assumed the Presidency in 1953. It was Roosevelt during World War II, except Truman for the last few months, after Roosevelt died April 12, 1945. Hitler died shortly thereafter.
