Why am I unable to find a space for #1822 Dolley Madison in my Scott National Album? Should be in 1980's Commemoratives, right? Its not a Regular Issue or Famous Person.

I don't have the same album but to the best of my knowledge it isn't a commemorative stamp.

After checking a little further I am now not so sure. I had best leave this to someone that can further verify.

Well, there are slightly different versions of the National Album over time.

I pulled one off the shelf. It is with the definitives, not commemoratives. Look for a page with the 8c blue/red USPS logo stamp at the UL corner. The header at the top of the page says:

POSTAGE
1972-80
Definitives

In the middle row, you should see spaces for the 13c Indian Head Penny and the 15c Madison.

The USPS Souvenir Page for the Dolley Madison issue refers to it as a "regular issue" stamp, so apparently Scott was right to group it in with definitive stamps.

Interesting, I found the page you described, however it's not there.

That's why I mentioned about different versions.

In addition, if the end part of the album was built up using supplements, the definitive pages tend to be spread out so that people don't have to keep rehinging/remounting the stamps. Do you know what year album you have (not including supplements)?

I'm afraid you will need to flip through the definitive pages after that page until you find it. It should be on the same page as the 13c Indian Head Penny.
