Saw this item on ebay, and was curious about the selvage on a #467, if that's what it is. Of course, it could also be a clipped portion of the stamp that was directly above it, but that does seem a bit odd. For the experts out there, were any of the #467 errors directly at the top outside edge of the sheet?

I wouldn't think the selvage would either increase or decrease the value. I think the color speaks for itself. I always thought these were more valuable when in a block ?

Does each one of these three errors have specific characteristics that identifies each as 74UL, 84UL or 18LR? This is important in authenticate a single stamp.

For sure that is a very poor scan by the seller. The stamp just does not look right. Just my opinion.

Yes each is unique and easily identified. The original entry was burnished out and the new entry done with the 5cent transfer roll. Each one shows portions of the original entry.

Even with the poor scan most of the main re-entry aspects of the stamp can still be identified. The left side outer frame is very distinct on this stamp.

The fakes of this that I have seen had the numerals painted in. The only other way to fake it would be a scan or a cutout from a catalog where the paper and impression would give it away immediately. This might be a poor scan or a faded example.

Thanks Russ, for pointing out the heavy left frame line. You are right. I suppose the top of the stamp was trimmed from the adjacent stamp. I can understand the reluctance to try to pull that bit of trimmed margin off. If you damaged the stamp, the value would be severely affected. I don't think I would have the nerves to try.
