Hi Lonedan. I don't have a recent Scott, but the latest PNC3 ( Plate Number Coil Collectors Club ) values list ( April 2011 ) shows it at $ 20.00.

Sorry Lonedan, skipped over the first part of your question. Senior moment? The same list gives the value of the three (10cent) Patriotic Banners as V111 $ 2.25, V222 $ 2.25 and V333 $ 3.35. The S111 is $ 2.75 and on cover $ 10.00. There also exists a V222 that reacts under Long Wave Ultra Violet light, $ 3.00 mint, on cover not listed! Their next values list is due later this year!

Lonedan, good question. First of all, the $10.00 value is for an actual postally used cover, NOT for a philatelic cover. And no, you can not put a stamp on a cover and mail it to yourself; this stamp is considered a precancel by the USPS. As you know, unless one has a permit these precancelled stamps can not be used.

I'll have to be on better lookout for these in the office mail. I know I've seen them from time to time, usually on a window envelope from an electronic billpay. |

There is a variety with water-activated gum: Scott 4385. I have never seen an example.

Quote: There is a variety with water-activated gum: Scott 4385. I have never seen an example. As I look in my stockbook, I don't have a copy of that WAG variety, either. However, a quick look in the current issue of USA Philatelic confirms that you can still buy them from SFS at face value (for collectors) in a strip of 5 ($0.50) or strip of 25 with plate number ($2.50). |

The V333 appeared later than the V111 & V222, but there are now a lot of them about by now and I don't think they are worth $10 on cover anymore. |
