Wayne Youngblood's article "Promotional FDCs Created for Many Reasons" in the March 2013 issue of
American Philatelist started me wondering if the topic had ever been the subject of a SCF thread. I didn't find anything apart from passing mention in a search of the forum's active threads so I thought I'd start this post to see if any of our members had any of these marketing tools in their collections.
My only promotional FDC (thus far) is from the Phoenix-Connecticut Group of Fire Insurance Companies on this July 11, 1945 FDC of the Iwo Jima issue (Scott 929). The cachet on the cover is from the House of Farnam. Included was an insert card with a message from the Group's Vice President. The cover was cataloged in Mellone's as 929-51.
