Other than upside down is this actually a precancel possible end or is it just an actual town cancel. Perfs are all wacky and if a pre cancel I didn't know they actually had a closed end.
Not a precancel, but a box cancel that has the city/state name indicated inside a "box". These were very popular in their day for cancelling parcels and large packages. They are often mistaken for a precancel but generally if you can see a vertical line in the cancel, it's a box cancel rather than a precancel.
In addition to coil machine precancels - there is a short list - only 25 - of precancels that look like boxes or partial boxes. Anything else is undoubtedly a box roller or handstamp post cancel.
