The last few times I have visited the site, every time a new page loads, the browser hangs. I have been looking around the screen during the hangs, and I think the new Facebook pic/link MAY be the cause, because as the hang is hanging, that pic/link is does not appear. Once everything "loosens up" again, that link appears.
Does anyone have any tips to gat around this?

The interesting thing about face book links, is if you are logged on to facebook, and you hit a page with one of these, Facebooks gets a notice and see where you are.
I try to stay logged out of FB when not actually in it..
Though I will say I do like the FB page that SCF has set up.

There are a LOT of sites that see where you are... I am not too-too happy about that. Thankfully, I am not deep into social sites, popular media, etc.
As for the hanging, I wonder if that FB link here is one of those Java thingies? Perhaps the browser is checking to see if it is safe every page-load? |

I've noticed the same thing. I'm running windows 8. Facebook is the only one I noticed doing this hang up thing. You only get 1/2 page or 1/2 picture. |

You could test by going to FB and (temporarily) turning off all APPS. I have mine permanently disabled (since I don't play FB games anyway).

It's from the advertising scripts. As the page is loading, a call is made for one or more advertisements. Those advertisements come from our sponsor's websites and may cause a brief delay in the loading of the link you clicked. It's something we must endure in order to pay for the site. |

Quote: I'm not so sure about that --- if you're correct, why isn't a problem for everyone using this site? Proximity to the servers, number of hops, a slow advertising host server, your ISP. There are way too many factors to take into account, but I'm certain I'm correct. All it takes is for a delay in the loading of one advertising link to make the entire page lag. It's common, if not expected. I experience the same thing on SCF now. If I turn off Java and Active Scripting, the issue goes away. However, turning those things off prevents me from seeing "Recent Forum Topics" and being able to reply, so I just live with the delay. Brian |

Quote: It took 0.16 seconds to lick this stamp. I have not seen one single page generation time over .55 seconds since this topic was posted. In the last 24 hours, one half of 1 percent of all page loads have taken more than 2 seconds to generate. The last week, 4 tenths of one percent. |

I have noticed the "hang" as well since the FB link was added to the site - the script seems to slow things down a little bit on my computer |

Bobby, does your app collect ping information from the advertisor host servers? You provided info on the SCF.org. I have never had issues with the SCF host server.
Ping those servers for a set amount of time and look at the results. I think you will be surprised ...

I just switched it up to a different server. It could have only been the share button. The "Like" code for SCF is served up in an iframe so that wouldn't affect anything even if it never loads.
Let's see if things are better for the rest of the day. (BTW, I'm still not seeing any problem at all) |

Something, somewhere, has changed in the last day or 2. All of a sudden, there is no page load lag. What I get now are those funky "clicks" that IE/Windows makes when working/opening (I hope filks know what I mean). In fact, it seems the sight is FASTER than it was before. I am now going top check and see if I am still logged into FaceRumor....... Yup, still logged in.
I don't know WHAT has changed, but I am happy and hope the Mystery Change keeps working! The hang was getting highly annoying... far more than 1-2 second, like others reported.
I will let folks know if the snail returns..... |

I also suffered from major "lag" in loading pages which began a few weeks ago. I thought my computer might have caught a "bug" or something, although this was the only site I was experiencing a problem with. Then, a couple of days ago, loading speed went back to normal(or nearly so). I didn't attempt any "fixes" at my end but the problem resolved itself. BTW, I did notice that the "page lag" began at the same time that the FaceBook icon appeared on this site. I believe this was/is the culprit. |
