I realize that this particularly narrow area of precancel collecting is somewhat looked down upon and a bit derided by most precancel traditionalists, but I find them interesting and fun. I am looking for United States Transportation coils with cities/towns/locals imprinted between the precancel bars. They are so called "FAVOR" "PSEUDO" "FAKE" "NOT A REAL PRECANCEL" etc etc etc and not really handled by most of the PSS dealers. Anybody know of a good source? ebay does not really work well as the few that are available are mixed into larger lots with material I do not want. An approval dealer in Florida is currently helping as well as 1 in Germany and 1 in the Netherlands.

All These sound simular, but are different:

FAVOR: A precancel using an offical device at a real post office applied by postmaster or staff on stamps already owned or being purchased by buyer.

PSEUDO: Generally considered to be unofficial precancels used by local postmasters but never authorized by Postmaster General. Usually made from modified official cancels, most often stating city & state with no lines, obviously they are hand-stamped.

FAKE: Forged precancel in order to fool collectors, primarily!

NOT A REAL PRECANCEL: These can be official devises that got into the hands of a third party, then precanceling stamps that would never have otherwise been precanceled. Also, commemorative precancels of sorts issued on real stamp for a special event usually a stamp show1! May consider mocked precancels on private local post to mimic a standard precancel!
