Does anyone know where I can get values for Motor Vehicle Revenues issues (RV)? Short of purchasing a copy of Scott Specialized I wanted to see if I could come about the values in a much less expensive venue.
Thanks for the help!

Doug, Thanks for the offer. I have just become interested in these revenues in particular after focusing on regular issues and basic bob stamps. I have started to track several on auction websites and hope to collect all of them. Therefore, I am actually in need of all of the Motor Vehicle (RV) values. I am not sure how many there even are. I understand if thats asking a little much to get them all. I am appreciative for any help. I would be willing to pay a fair price for a list if it is extensive.
Thanks again! BT |

There are 53 different "RV" numbers. The 1942 stamps are RV1-11, a different denomination for each month, since the tax effectively went down month by month. The 1943 stamps are RV12-23. The 1944 stamps are RV24-35. The 1945 stamps are RV36-47. The 1946 stamps are RV48-53, ending with the "June" issue, then the tax was discontinued when the war ended.
In every case, the mint stamp is worth substantially more than used. Since they were not cancelled, to my knowledge, the only criteria for "used" is that the gum is missing. For RV2-53, the gum is on the face, to be stuck to the windshield, so that the stamp can face outward, visible to the police or other officials. Mint copies often have cracked or disturbed gum, since it was a formula designed to stick to glass, not paper.
And I would assume that, once affixed to the windshield, there was absolutely no way to remove it without causing major damage.
The highest catalog value of all, January 1944 $2.50 yellow, $125 mint. The cheapest is February 1942, $2.09 green, 50 cents used. |

Doug,
Thanks for the info and description. That will certainly be a help as I begin my quest to obtain these for my collection.

I went to ebay and typed in "RV27" at random, and there were 4 copies for sale, all from the same seller. At nearly $60, that's roughly full Scott, but I must admit they were very nice copies. |

Those particular vehicle stamps are essentially worthless; it doesn't pay to buy badly damaged copies -- stained, scuffed, taped, off-center, and wrinkled -- even for "starters." Maybe 50c each. You can find better, few people collect them.
The $5 block looks quite nice, but I'd want to see the other side, close-up. |

for doug 222...this is a scan of the back of the block of 4, i see no evidence of glue or any attachments.... the 3 motor vehicle stamps, on the second row are in pretty good shape, the scans don't do the stamps justice..i agree , the top row 3 although taped, and used, arent too bad.... thanks David |

David, I call 'em like I see 'em. The purple $5 is stained, and the green $5 is grossly off-center. The minute you get those, you will start thinking about replacing them... |

There is a small section in the back of the Scott Specialized Catalog (I am using a 2011 edition) that identifies Camp Stamps RVC1 through RVC4 as having a value of $90 each (mint, never hinged condition). The value is also listed in italics, suggesting that there are few examples to really establish a secondary market price for them. The reference goes on to say that the stamps are not valued in "used" condition, as any attempt to remove them from the fee envelope would cause them to come apart.
Incidentally, the RVC7 is noted to be a $2 black, yellow "G"; the RVC8 is noted to be a $3 black, green "H"; and an RVC10 is noted to be a $10 black, bronze "J". |

The "Camp" stamps are really rare; if the demand were higher, i.e., more people collected them, you would see much higher Scott prices. But as with any thin market, condition is critical. I would refrain from buying anything except perfect copies, especially faded copies; if that means waiting a year or two, so be it.
In the 2013 Specialized, RVC1-4 have blasted off to $200 each. RVC5-10 are $500, $500, $500, $500, and unpriced, respectively. The "a" varieties of RVC1-4 are $350 each.
The next item, the 1939 "trailer permit" stamps, RVT1-2, are $2,750 mint for the 50c blue, and $600 mint for the $1 carmine. And MUCH more "used" on license. |

They were stored in my equivalent of a recreational vehicle sock drawer until yesterday. Serious collectors might consider placing WTB ads in the Western U.S. A failed government program, due to lack of interest. The RVC10 might be monstrously rare. |

Agreed! The average yard sale entrepreneur would price them at $1 each. And the question you ask is, "I collect National Parks stuff, brochures, licenses, forms, stamps, etc., including duck-hunting stamps..." |
