Hi, I'm Gavin.
I've recently rediscovered this hobby. In my teens (1980's) I was given my dads old collection of US, German, and other worldwide stamps that he built in the 60's. I spent quite a bit of time growing the collection and bringing it current.
As teens do, I became interested in other things and eventually put the collection aside. Unfortunately over the years, through many moves and whatnot most of the collection has gone missing. It was never a very valuable collection money wise, but much more valuable sentimentally.
I've recently started rebuilding the collection. I have just ordered the Mystic American Heirloom Album and will likely order a worldwide album in the coming months.
My interests are US, German, Vietnam, China, Thailand, and Indonesia, as well as some topicals. I look forward to being part of the forum.
Gavin

Hi Gavin,
Welcome to the group. For your USA collection will you be going for mint or used specimens?

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Quote: For your USA collection will you be going for mint or used specimens? I think both. From 30's forward it should be mostly mint, and from 30's back I'll collect mostly used but will try to acquire mint when budget allows. |

Gavin:
That's exactly the way I collect the USA. Eventually, I decided not to collect anything issued after 2000 because there was just too much to buy.

Welcome Gavin. You will find this a very informative and friendly family of collectors. This a great place to learn and share your knowledge and experiences. I too collect U.S. I am on a limited budget so I like you don't collect anything modern. I collect as many Mint as I can but have to forgo the older stamps right now and go more for quantity than The Older pre-1912 Quality. I suspect some day I will have to go for collecting used in the older rarer stamps. |

Hi All,
My name is Steve Johnson and I live in Missouri. I guess I'm sort of an accumulator, but I like collecting worldwide definitive stamps. I have been a member of the APS since 1982 and hope to remain a member many more years. I do have a limited budget for stamps, but I have learned that stamps have something to offer everyone of all ages and incomes. So I can get as excited about a "junk box" stamp as I can looking at the rarities I can never afford in auction catalogs |
