Thank you for that link. I didn't know where to find the plate numbers on the 2491 and 2813 coil issues.

"... where to find the plate numbers on the 2491 and 2813 coil issues."

Exhaustive checklists, including WAG/PSA data, at:

Although this pre-dates US Postage Stamps, I thought this bit of postal trivia for today, February 15th, would be of interest to those reading this thread:

Quote:
1842 - Adhesive postage stamps were used for the first time by the City Dispatch Post (Office) in New York City.

There's a difference between the first of something, and when it first became "mainstream". For instance I was trying to look up when touch tone dialing became somewhat mandatory, Wikipedia tells me the 1960s, doesn't help me at all, it answers the wrong question.

Luckily I stumbled upon an alternative answer to an alternative version of the question:
In 1992, the self-stick stamp began to replace the traditional version. By 2005, 98 percent of all stamps were self-stick, though some large volume mailers still prefer the traditional wet-then-stick style.

Actually, the most recent WAG stamp was the Chippendale Chair reprint in January of this year.
And, of course, there was the 1-cent Bobcat of 2013. At least I think it was the 2013 version that was gummed with the earlier one self-adhesive.

Seems like there are still some coil stamps with SAG but that's it at least for now.
