Hello, guys!
I would like to ask you if this stamp is something common or the letters UTICA NEW YORK increase the value? How much is this stamp worth?

The Utica, New York overprint is a precancel (PSS Type 204, I believe). Precancels are generally worth less than non-precanceled used stamps according to current catalogs. However, there are a special group of collectors that only deal in precancels who may find the item desirable.

The second scanned stamp with a perfin "N" followed by a large "L" then a "Y" is a company perfin, which I believe was used by the New York Life Insurance Company.

Hello and thank you for the informative reply! :)
So I understand that both of those stamps are unique. How much do you think that a precancel collector would spend for that kind of stamp? Is the NLY stamp also valuable and how much could it cost?
Thank you! :)

Hello kaiba_corp. The precancel town and type catalog gives the type 204 a 10 cent value. I don't have info on the perfin. Hope this helps, Dan

It may also help to know that precancels were utilized to speed up mail processing. Precancels are postage stamps that have been canceled before being used on letters or packages. Typically they are stamps cancelled with two lines, and the city and state where they were mailed.
The "perfin" is slang for perforated initials and primarily used by business, large corporations, schools and the like to curtail the theft and private use of postage from their facilities.

ALSO- to the forum. I hope you stick around a bit. (pun intended)

Thank you kindly for the reply!
I'm an amateur stamp collector, I own a collection of around 1500 stamps, mainly from EX-Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Usa, Germany and other countries. I'm glad that I joined this forum, it looks like the biggest stamp forum on the net.
Hope to learn much from you. Thanks for the Welcome message! :)
