I like U.S. Scott 1053 since it is one of the only few dry flat plate printed U.S. stamps since most flat plate stamps were wet printed and it is also the last flat plate printed U.S. stamp. Also, it is the last perforated 11 x 11 by two old flat plate rotary wheel perforators. After this, the Giori press stamps are perforated 11 x 11 with the new L-perforator. It marks almost 100 years (1857-1956) of the old flat plate rotary perforator being used on U.S. stamps and of U.S. perforations.
I'm recalling back in 1979 before the tax law changes when prices were through the stratosphere...
I remember one show I went to (Vegas, maybe) where either a sheet of 1053 or 834 (can't recall which) was on display, with an armed guard standing next to it...
