There is also a hole, just one, perfin?

I wonder if the hole is similar to perfin?
I didn't realize this stamp was that old!

The hole was apparently part of the production process. It appears the entire series was issued as holepunched.

The holes were not part of the production process. They were added to the vast stock of remainders purchased by a New York dealer, year unknown; punched copies are worth from 5% to 20% of the original stamps issued in 1881. See Scott #1T1-1T16.
