always with an eye for the oddball item I pulled his out of a dealers dollar box at Orapex...who knows how the eye spots these things ? Looks like Mrs. La Rochelle in Massachusetts sent a letter to Madame ? in Montreal using a precancel stamp..it also has a double postmark Boston and Montreal !!

Very nice cover, philb, a great find.

Do you think the double cancellation had anything to do with the use of the pre-cancelled stamp, or perhaps it was cancelled again in Montreal because of the address correction?

I believe that it is addressed to Madame Rose de Lima Lavalee.

BTW, St. Rose of Lima has been featured on a number of stamps of Peru, including this airmail from 1936:

I suspect that was the case.

Thanks, Phil,

I did not mean to take your thread off topic, but the name of the addressee on your cover caught my attention and gave me an excuse to post a nice stamp image.

The St. Rose of Lima stamp (Scott #C39) was the high value of an airmail set of 24 issues beautifully engraved and printed by Waterlow in 1936-37 that otherwise featured the scenery of Peru.

I doubt Mrs. La Rochelle had a permit in her name.

477 Sherbrooke est is about 5-10 minutes away from where I live. But I don't believe the address still exists.
