Can anyone please tell me how to price a stamp that is in the back of the book that only has prices for UnUsed. Example C52 Line pair with small holes that is VF-XF Mint. The VF unused is a price of 240.00 but for only unused. Is this something I need to have expertized to get an idea. Any ideas on how to go about that from you gurus. I know in selling; it won't be full price but knowing the price can give a little cushion. As always I appreciate the knowledge that the forum has.

If Scott catalog does not list a value in either Mint or used it simply means they do not have enough information on the piece.

Thanks Stallzer. Scotts has mint and so forth but the list only goes to C31 in the yellow pages and after that they only list Unused and used. I flipped open the Brookmans and the same way. I have a lot of airmail in mint VF-XF and some that look Sup that is not mentioned.

Newby - what source are you using for the Scott value? The Scott Specialized 2013 catalog lists the small hole joint line pair as $240 unused, and $75 used.

At some point, the Scott catalog values assume never hinged. Prior to that point, they list different gum conditions and the prices. Check the listings for that point.

Checked my old Specialized:
The note is before 772 in the front of the book and before C19 in the airmails.

Thanks ncbuckeye for the reply. Yea stallzer set me straight on that. It just wasn't making sense because I thought that it was only for an unused stamp not really knowing that it was being called a mint stamp. But I was thinking about grade since it is listed as VF in the book. I mean that's what Scotts state isn't it. All stamps listed are in a grade of VF. What if you have a XF or XF-SUP. It's still 240.00

Higher conditions of centering always command a higher price, but in general the later the stamp was issued the lower the premium due to larger surviving populations. But if you have XF you might be able to sell for much closer to the full catalog value of $240 for VF, if you are patient.

Thanks Crouse27 but as collectors which I am not but at some point I will be a seller of my stamps we know it is hard to get full price because of populations and the market. I am just getting to know what I have and a fair price of each stamp so when I do sale I will know what is there and a fair price. At some point I will post some pics and let the forum help with some of stamps. I love it here!
