I've never had any interest in collecting topicals.

But here's one that might be worth considering and it
won't mean significantly increasing my stamp budget.

TELETHONS!

And I have one already.

What a start!

Wow, I didn't know they covered telethons--cool subject-
but maybe not a lot of material out there for that-but I'm no expert (that's for sure!ha)

I don't have a catalog for Italy, but the stamp shown was issued in 2002. In fact, it's somewhat of a oddity, in that the left hand helix is not the acceptable design, as a right hand helix is typically shown in artwork.

Some further (although technical) data on that and other stamps of scientific nature can be found at this link. It provides an interesting read:

Layout: Creaphil
Printing process : Offset

The "25th Telethon" will take place on 2nd and 3rd December 2011. As many European countries, the Principality of Monaco supports this event organised in Monaco by the Association de Promotion et d'Organisation du Téléthon Monaco (OTM). During "MonacoPhil 2011", the "Office des Emissions de Timbres-Poste" will sell illustrated, numbered envelopes bearing the "Telethon" stamp. Proceeds will go to the OTM.

There are not too many Telethon stamps out there. However, I found this example when surfing the web:
