Generally these covers run from $1 - $10. Can you make out the year on the date stamp ? Certain nuances can ramp the value up such as routing marks, small P.O.'s that had a very short time in business, small town CDS, etc.

It's very hard to tell from a scan but the color of your Stamp appears to have a Pink hue which could be a very good thing but the year on the cover will decide the color.

One more point- The topic title indicates a stamp with Benjamin Franklin on it. It is infact one President George Washington. :)

I am confused (often am), but are not the dots actually counting the perforation teeth, and not a hypothetical grill.

You are correct in that the OP is counting perfs, not grill points.
