More likely just a sample ("specimen") of the journal; I don't see any indication that it went by air. Can you tell us the year of the postmark, I can't read it?

Most "air" mailings would be inscribed Par Avion.

Hi Doug2222, thank you for your reply.

It looks like 30/12/28... but, it also could be 1925... I am not sure. BUT, in the catalogue is specified that this stamp has been issued in 1926... so, I suppose that it cannot be from the late 1925 anyhow.

All, the Postmark seems to says "Gare Saint-Lazare", which is one of the Paris' railway stations... so, this is surely not an airmail example in that case.

I guess there isn't a British arrival mark on the back?

Hello Nigelc... nothing on the back side of that cover.

It is strange that only 25c was a rate for this, probably initially heavy (if the thick magazine was included) letter, and for another, for the similar distance, and from the same period was 1f50.

I also have this British cover, from the same small collection:

The postage due cover strikes me as a valuable item, $20 to $40, maybe more, in my opinion. Especially if you can remove the "white-out" vandalism.

Hi filipo,

That's a very nice cover with the range of Manchester (498) marks.

I guess the French item only needed a 25c stamp because it was a magazine and there was no letter.

Doug2222, thank you for the info. The "white-out" vandalism is made just in the photoshop (on the photo)... cover itself is in the perfect condition. Btw. what looks to be interesting on that cover... postage due stamp or the planty of the marks?

Nigelc, I agree with you... although, this is an envelope, completely closed... not a wrapper with a open side. I never heard before the term "specimen" in the newspaper's terminology... only for the paper money... and stamps, of course.

Here's alink to the front page of an issue of L'Indicateur Aérien.

I'd have updloaded it directly but the image is a little over the 100kb size limit.

The link is to the web site of the New York Public Libray and shows page one of issue #1 of May 1921. If you scroll through the images using this link you'll see many other great aviation images from the ealry days (although from other sources).

For the G.B. cover, the beauty lies in 3 separate markings, plus a choice postage due stamp and cancellation. Hard to find all those elements on a single cover. A "dues" collector would snap it up, I'm sure. Oddball items like this belong on ebay, with exposure to the British ebay too, I think that's 10c extra. Your image(s) should omit the white-out.

Thanks on the link, Nigelc. I am also collecting old newspapers and magazines... it is a great feeling when you have in your hands a well preserved newspaper from the same date you are reading, for example... but, from the 300 years ago. English newspapers from the 18th century are very nice, I have a lot of them.

Doug2222, thank you very much for the advices. Unfortunately, I am living in Croatia (still not a part of the EU), so, it is pretty hard to sell on ebay... in fact, all my efforts to sell one cover/one auction are usually more worthful than the amount which I can expect from such a single piece.
