A thread on E1/E2 got me looking at my collection of these BOB items. I was quickly drawn to the E6 variety when I saw the note that there was a variety with "Damaged Transfer below the N of CENTS". Here is what I found.

The first picture is all (4) of interest.

Now, what I would consider the normal version, and the closeup of the area of interest:

Then, a version where there appears to be a slight bit of damage to the area of interest:

Next, something is definitely happening here:

And, finally, a full-blown, damaged version:

I believe the last two would qualify as damaged versions. It is interesting to see third version where the transfer is "almost" damaged, but not quite.

I can't speak for the varieties you have asked about, but one thing I never really noticed until you posted the blow ups of this stamp is that there are no spokes in the bicycle wheels -- it look as if the wheels of the bicycle are simply floating in space!

Partime, that is a great looking set of stamps. Is it known what caused the problem?
I do the same with some of the plate varieties on the Transportation Coils. For example, the 4.9 cent Buckboard plate 4 comes with a gripper crack known as the "Buggy Whip". It is possible to assemble a complete collection, showing the 'evolution' of the crack.

Petert4522. Not quite sure, as I only looked at a small set of my stamps. I was hoping that others in the SCF could help fill in some of the holes in this evolution. It appears evident that the damage was slow, so I'm sure that there are quite a few examples out there that show some different stages. Then again, maybe example (3) is unique, or only one of a few, that shows that final stage before complete damage. In any case, I think I found an area that could be interesting to collect, and at a fairly reasonable price.

Stamp collecting continues to amaze me ...

Any other examples out there?

You know the artist used himself as the model for this stamp. Also, I have never heard of this damaged transfer before? I'll have to look into it more.

My guess is that this fault is fairly widespread based on the very small premium. ($15 used versus $10 used in the 2012 Scott catalog.) However, as pointed out by Peter, it could be an interesting study of the evolution of the damaged transfer. Maybe I've found my "purpose" ...

I noticed the same. A close examination of some others in my collections shows a very, very light spoke pattern. Perhaps he was trying to imply a great speed of delivery?
