Designing a page for the 2002 US Flag definitive, and to make sure I got all the major Scott numbers right.

This page is supposed to only contain US Flag stamps issued in 2002.

Any and all help appreciated;

Keeping strictly with 2002 issued varieties, there are a few errors, namely:

Scott 3629F should not be listed. It was issued on 11/24/2003. Besides, the perforations measure 11.25 all around.

Scott 3630 is not WAG, but a self adhesive stamp from a pane, die cut 11.25 x 11.

Scott 3631 is a self adhesive coil, perf 9.75 (per Scott catalog), perf 10 (per USPS Guide to US Stamps) ... not sure why the difference, since both catalogs are ultimately published under license from Scott.

Scott 3633 is incorrectly listed. It is a coil, perf. 8.5 vert.

Scott 3634 is a booklet stamp, die cut 11.1 on 3 sides.

Scott 3635 is a booklet stamp, die cut 11.3 (per Scott catalog) or 11.25 (per USPS Guide to US Stamps) on 2, 3 or 4 sides.

Scott 3636 is a booklet stamp, die cut 10.5 x 10.75 on 2 or 3 sides.

Thanks for catching all that!

So, take out 3629F, change the descriptions and I am good to go?

The Scott Catalog is really difficult to use when identifying all these varieties.

Thanks for the research. I won't use your page because I keep pairs, strips, etc. but the research is very helpful. I'm still bothered a bit with how to deal with essentially the same stamp issued in different years. Chronological seems clean but also not and this occurs with many issues where only the date changes.

I have no issue with multi-year definitives. But if you do that, you need to stop new definitives. The flag stamps were issued through 2005. But 2003, 2004 and 2005 had their own unique definitives introduced.

Andy,

A few suggested modifications from my reading of the Scott Specialized (2011). Two are substantive and the others stylistic.

My main comments are: per the catalog, the 3631 is perforated and not die cut, and, the box around the 3632 isn't a consistent size as the others.

Steve

Screwed that one up too. 3633 should have the larger box! The backing paper on 3633 is larger than the stamp.

Hi,
I am new on the forum, however it has been helpful. I do have a question regarding the 37c Wavy flags. I see that you have done work on them, so I thought I'd ask. I have scott#3636D dated for 2004, however the reds appear much darker on one of the stamps vs. the others. Is this a variation, or does it have a separate number. Sadly, I don't have a Scott specialty album in this decade to help.
Thanks for your help.

The only variation the 2013 Scott Specialized lists for 3636D is 363De, which is the whole booklet pane of 20 stamps.

This link may also be helpful. As it relates to Scott 3636D, there were three plate numbers used. It is not out of the realm of possibility that one of those plate number varieties could have used a slightly darker red ink, but not significant enough to qualify for a special listing in the Scott catalog:
