Sometimes you see a messy mountain of material that you just HAVE to have. The following mess is on its way to me:

http://www.revenue-collector.com/revenuehoard.html

6 volumes of U.S. and worldwide revenues, locals, cinderellas, cut squares, and other miscellany. It just keeps going...

My assumption is that virtually all of the U.S. locals, newspaper stamps, and Confederates are fakes/reprints/facsimiles (actually, most of the newspaper stamps are printed as such).

It's definitely a "quantity over quality" lot, as at least amongst the U.S. revenues, I do not see any high-dollar pieces. However, the allure is for hunting plate varieties, silk papers, and cancels. There are several good cancels peeking their heads out from amongst the crowd.

Yup, no kitchen sink.

Just about everything else, though. Where do you find this stuff?

I could not have said no to that! That would be some fun stuff to go through! The more I look at it, the more I'm wanting to go Hunt around here! But it seems dry in Central/West Oregon

This showed up on ebay over the weekend. The Buy-It-Now price was insanely high, which I think scared people off. I did a bit of back-and-forth via Best Offer and ended up at a point that I was comfortable with.

It still wasn't cheap by any means just due to the sheer volume, but it's at a level where I think I can cherrypick and then flip. I haven't decided if I will try and flip the whole thing, or try to split out the locals, cinderellas, world revs by country, etc.

The U.S. revenues don't look too picked over. I see a Seth Arnold cancel, a nice Thomas N. Dale fancy shield cancel, some railroad cancels, etc. There are penciled referenced to plate varieties and silk papers (not to mention that there are likely silk papers not identified as such).

The best stamp I saw not counting any cancels that might be hidden was the wholesale liquor dealer special tax stamp, which is about a $75 item retail(Eric asks about twice that, so.....). The US aside, some of this like the Canada and Austria will probably flip fairly easily, but I have a feeling that some of this stuff will be cluttering up your shelves for a very long time. Depending on what you have to get out of it of course.

Holy cow batman!

You are lucky to have found something so important to invest your valuable time into (or do I mean indulge a worthless compulsion?)

If you have any newfoundland bits, I'll second the motion by 1175mac and place an order...

Fantastic hoard alright.

I would imagine that after some careful research into that collection, there would be a very good chance of finding some 'sleepers' in there. The US Duck stamps by themselves are highly collectible. Also noticed a few good Canadian revenue stamps in there as well.

Ducks are collectable but used ducks have low cat values after the first few years. There is some money there, but not a very large amount.

Also, my experience at shows tells me that people either want ducks mint or used on licenses. Used off license are the bottom of the barrel unless offered in sets or heavily discounted.

Even so, there look to be a couple in the $20-40 range (cat) as well as quite a bunch in the $10-15 range. Throw 5-10 of the latter in a set and offer them for 15-25% of Scott and there should be some takers, if not here on ebay. Great "beginners" sets.
