There is at least 1 Spanish collector who would be interested in the Spanish/Colonies material.

The Match & Medicines appear to be common ones, but we can talk eventually.

Form the images it seem you have some genuine locals; the bloods, the Allen's City Dispatch, a few of the Boyds; most of the Hussy's; the Empire City Dispatch and the City Dispatch Delivery. Most of the others shown are Hussey's forgeries and reprints and also some SA Taylor facsimiles.

It looks like there are six genuine Confederate stamps 11 or 12, two # 7, a Springfield facsimile of #6 and 11, a new York counterfeit #6 , a 10 cent alter plate, a #13 SA Taylor facsimile and #5 (unknown origins).

That's a fun lot right there! I hope to find something like that at an estate sale one of these days.

The second half of the lot arrived and I've had a chance to give it just a cursory glance. In short, I'm overwhelemed. There is SOOOO much stuff there.

This was NOT a cheap purchase... into 4 figures. The sum total cost is daunting, but as I expected after doing some quick calculations, the cost breaks down to being quite a decent deal.



There were a couple of pages that the seller didn't image, which came as a pleasant surprise, specifically 2 pages of 19th century and early 20th century U.S. front of the book. Also, a full page of what I am assuming are all reprint/fake Confedferate stamps.

I have the 3-volume Lyons reference on U.S. locals en route, so I hope to be able to discern more about the locals in the lot.

Do any of the Confederate fakes/reprints have any value other than as novelty items? Some of the colors and print qualities really *SCREAM* fake.

Also, do any of the Newspaper facsimiles have value? The ones I've looked at appear to be quite old; they're not recent creations.

There's just stuff on top of stuff on top of stuff... where to start?

I would think that any reasonable quantity of the newspaper facs would sell as a lot, there should certainly be interest.

Some of you Confederate fakes may have value, cannot tell without seeing then. If you plan to sell/trade then drop me an email and I can id then and let you know if there is any value. Also, I can provide references for the id.

I cant, Im just speechless.

Just ran across the first "finds" in the lot. Last night I was pulling some cheap revenues to sell in bulk to a fellow collector who is plating several of the types and found not one, but two pairs of R55d, the 50-cent Entry of Goods on silk paper.

Scott is $210 per pair. Not a shabby way to start out...

I haven't even begun to look at the locals. I'm slowly making my way through the the 1st issue documentaries.

Still haven't won the lottery, but am finding some nice cancels, including two fairly scarce cancels in the $100-150 range:

Ashburton Coal Co. Actual green ink cancels are VERY scarce (most that appear green are actually blue ink but appear green due to the effect of the stamp's color). The most notable green cancels on 1st issue revenues (in my experience) are Warren Stetson, North Adams, MA (More of a blue-green than lime green), New York Central Railroad Co., and this one. This and the NYCRR are the most "green" in color.
