hi, I have been collecting since the 60s. Currently, I mainly focus on Canada FDCs. I still keep up with the new OFDC when they come out, but search for the special printings and special cancels that are cataloged or even uncatalogued throughout the 80s and 90s. I know a lot of people gave up on fdc when the post office got in to it, but there is some rare niche collecting that can be done which I find very rewarding. I pick up private issue commemorative covers too when I come across them. I also have been collecting in the last few years older FDC in Canada from the 1920s to 1950. Focus on certain cachets per issue, but I know people who try to collect every one known to man. That's too broad for me. Hope to learn and hear stories of items I may not know and am willing to share my knowledge in these categories. Hoping to create some new collectors in these fields.
Welcome to the group! I am a Canadian collector as well, but I tend to focus on singles stamps with a bit of side collection of postal history covers from my home town of Peterborough, Ontario. I do pick up OFCDs of some of the issues I am most excited about, and have a few early FDCs that were postmarked in Peterborough as well. Though (O)FDCs might not be the most popular collecting area, I can certainly share in the interest of this area of collecting.
the reason I focused mainly on the ofdc is because I couldn't take my mint canadian stamp collection much further, so it was more fun hunting for the specialized covers. it's been a long time since I was in Peterborough.
