This cover was mailed to MGM studios in California by a fan of Faye Emerson. It is stamped "UNCALLED FOR AT METRO-GOLDWIN-MAYER". Interestingly, the cover has been opened and still has the request for an autographed photo inside.

Interesting cover

It would be a nice addition to a Hollywood themed collection.

By 1945 she had already married FDR's son Elliot and moved back east, which is why it was uncalled for.

Okay ... now for some details!

I assume the red marking "Uncalled for at..." was a postal marking.

Has anyone noticed that they misspelled MGM in that rubber stamp? It should be "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer" with a "y" in "Goldwyn"; not an "i"!

Hey, you're right!! Wow... I don't think the studio would allow such a typo to occur on their end, so maybe you are right and it is a PO stamp. I suppose there would be a LOT of undeliverable fan mail back then, warranting a special stamp.

Hi Nells250,

The main reason the letter was not collected may have been that Faye Emerson was under contract to Warner from 1941 to 1944, not Metro Goldwyn Mayer. From accounts I have read she was a very smart lady as well as being easy on the eye. Photo below.

So THAT si what she looked like. I've heard her mentioned in old radio shows but never had a face to associate with the jokes.
