On the horns of a dilemma. Have this set of American Art FDC's.
4 of them with the whole on them. I don't have any used singles.
Do I soak them? 2007 Scott says cv. is $.60 each. 2007 Harris
doesn't even have them for sale except for the entire sheet FDC.
Advice & comments, welcome.
BTW: MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Let me clarify my title; I was trying to say "single stamps gotten from FDC's, soaked and placed in the
collection as a used stamp. Sorry.

As for myself, I don't collect covers. So if the cover
is in good condition, I will try to sell it. But if the
cover is in some way flawed or there are many on ebay and
they aren't selling, why take the time and also pay to
list it.

So if it's common, not in great demand, you can use the
stamps but have no use for the cover, you aren't going
to try to sell it or trade it, then see it as a source for
what you need. What, are you going to hold onto a cover
you don't collect simply because it is a cover and buy the
stamps, instead?

I have soaked many FDC's, mostly foreign, since that is what
I collect, if it was dirty, wrinkled, creased, torn, or if
no one on ebay was willing to pay 99 cents to have it. Stamps
from FDC's give you such nice used copies compared to the
normal run of the mail.

I see nothing wrong with soaking them off if you need to. I have a friend that soaks his FDC's that he needs the stamps for--I personally ,cannot bring myself to drown a poor cover--no matter how worn it is.

Which 4 stamps do you need?
Do they have to be used, or can they be unused?

Sounds like you might be able to trade off the
FDCs for the stamps you need. That way you and
an FDC collector both come out ahead.

Just a though for when you have 50 posts.

ratio: I screwed up. meant to say 4 covers have the whole set of 20 stamps on them and the cachets aren't real fancy.
I don't have any of the set at all. Also, yes am anxious to get my 50 posts to be able to trade and such.
would be on here more but I've got piles of stamps everywhere. just don't have much time to chat.

Carl..It all depends upon what part of the cancel struck the stamp.
If any of the words, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE, or the Cancel date, hit
the stamp, it lowers the catalog value of the stamp..[ if soaked and
usrd as a used single ]
