Hi, I'm trying to fill the empty spots in this album so that I can gift it to one of my grandsons. I've already taken care of the early values but now need all those regular issues most of which list at around $.25 in Scotts. How do I best do this? The problem with online bidding is the postage these folks charge. Do I just send a list of numbers out? To whom?
Fred

Make a list by catalog # and go to a stamp show in your area |

These are the stamps that I'm looking for. Stamp shows are probably only held in large metropolitan areas. I certainly have never heard of one in SW FL. I did a search of stamp dealers and found one in Naples, FL where I live. He probably operates out of his house as I've never seen an actual stamp store here. I sent this list to a couple dealers in FL. We'll see if I get a response. Kevin504 I was really hoping to present my oldest grandson with a never hinged collection but I appreciate your offer and might take you up on it if I can't get the NH stamps. Way to go, Kevin! Keep in mind, guys...there is such a thing as "pay it forward"...and that pertains to all of us. I know most of you, as well as I, appreciate all the help, extra assistance and advice we receive from one another on here. That's what makes this a great forum! Currently, I'm primarily on the receiving end. Every college professor started out in 1st grade at one point. Keep the hobby going! Kudos to fredrump, also, for wanting to pass it on to his grandson. I plan on doing the same, come Christmas. Currently, I have a total of 12 grandchildren and step grandchildren, so it will be a task, for sure. I'll probably wait until the younger ones get a bit older, but it certainly wouldn't hurt their parents to get involved also. The learning possibilities are endless, and that includes the adults. I would hate to see a world where kids know nothing about stamps other than what they can pick up off their electronic devices. |

sprtsracer....would you like me to send you the used collection that I offered fredrump? Maybe one of your grandkids will enjoy it. I would like to see it go to someone who will benefit from it. I wish I had a collection like this when I was a kid. I did get help from others but it was mostly clippings from mail, being driven to the stamp store so I can spend my allowance, etc.... Mike33....thanks for the kind words. |

Kevin...I appreciate it, and again, it's very kind. I'm still in the process of deciding what to gather for them based on their ages. Because I started with a "worldwide" album, and a bunch of loose stamps that I had to decipher, I found that it was best, at least for me, to muddle through and actually learn what Magyar, Deutsche, Monaco. Belgique, Espana, etc. meant. I also had a world map, and looked up every country I discovered in relationship to that tiny state of West Virginia where I lived. Pretty soon, I could walk into my third grade class and point out most countries on the globe that sat next to the teacher's desk without a second thought. I also knew what their flags looked like, because the album I had reserved a place for a cinderella stamp of each country's flag. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was learning...on my own...far more than I could have by reading and listening to my teacher talk about geography. In all honesty, if fredrump doesn't have a need for it, I would only recommend that you contact a local "Boys/Girls Club, Scout Troop, or other worthwhile organization, sit down with the kids, volunteer some time with them, and I'm certain you'd get far more enjoyment out of it than you realize! In fact, I think that's a pretty good idea for all of us. Bring your own collection...let them see what they can accomplish, and get them started out. Again, I appreciate the offer. I'm just kind of looking out for the "greater good". I can afford to absorb the cost of the stamps, but many of these kids and/or their parents can't, nor would they know where, to start. Anyway, it's just food for thought for us all, but as individuals, we can use our talents to accomplish far more than we ever thought in order to benefit others, and enjoy the hell out of a hobby we all love at the same time. Who knows...we may learn something ourselves along the way! |

Yes, Kevin. Thanks for all the nice stamps on the envelope too. Yesterday I finally got mounts and put them in the album. I'm almost complete. A few more stamps and then I will scan the whole thing before giving it away. I'll probably wait till his next birthday. Thanks again. fred
